The undercurrent

Human beings are such complex creatures. We all think and feel a bunch of things inside but for most of the time, we don't make those thoughts and feelings known. When we do, we choose to disclose selective information to selective people, which means that we are all engaged in a constant 'guessing game' with each other, never really knowing what the other person is thinking or feeling.

Even one's persona is selectively revealed. For instance, the Eddy known by my workmates is completely different from the Eddy known by my friends. This phenomenon permeates all of our relationships, be it people we work with, play with, sleep with, etc, etc.

Sometimes I wonder what life would be like if we indiscriminately let others know exactly what we think or feel. I suspect life could get even more complicated if that is possible.

For posterity, here is my running travel diary for our trip to the USA/Canada in 2017/2018 13 December 2017 I got up at about 5:30 am in the morning and found that I slept alone all night. I went out of the bedroom and called out to Sam but there was no answer. When I went upstairs, I found him asleep on the couch. Like last time when we went on a big trip, he spent the whole night packing and cleaning up his room (he made a huge mess of it leading up to the trip). It wasn't such a bad idea because hopefully, that would make him tired enough to sleep on the plane. We left home at about 8 am and Uber-ed to the Brisbane International Airport. We had a lovely driver, who was very chatty and friendly. Verbal acrobatics, group get-together, and thunderstorms

I have tried very hard this weekend to be relaxed after a huge work week. It didn't help when I worked half of Saturday but I was reasonably successful in doing so for the rest of the weekend. I particularly needed the break because work in all respects was full on and will remain so during the silly season, especially after the teleconference I had late Friday afternoon when I was negotiating a deal with a rather evasive and egotistical character. I had to do some heavy duty verbal acrobatics but eventually cornered him into a position. To seal the deal, I quickly sent an email to confirm the position and CC-ed the email to a few other people who previously wouldn't concede their position. If I achieved anything, these guys are now hopefully panicking internally, wondering if and how they could back-paddle, now that they had given ground. Labour intensive work, BYO lunch, and playing with toddler

It was another very busy week. I was so busy that by the time my business partner said goodbye to me through the glass wall of my office on Tuesday evening, I had no idea he was taking off for a short holiday. I planned to do a number of things for the rest of the week, except that by the week's end, I was only half-way there. Friday evening Jake and Ryan came to my office at about 5 pm because they needed some advice from me. By the time we finished, it was after 6 pm. They waited for me at our reception while I got changed. Meanwhile, Phil met up with us there as well, so the four of us went down and walked to the cinemas together. As usual, after we got our movie tickets, we went to Grill'd for dinner. Sam showed up not long after we sat down. It was a bit weird to turn our conversation from a business to a social one.
