Backup

I had a busy week but a lot of the stuff I did weren't immediately productive. Then there was this disagreement I had with a colleague at a meeting. I had a particular point of view and they had theirs, which made it a bit hard for me to agree with him upfront. I did mull over the issue at length afterwards and gathered some facts from a third person. I found myself coming up with some ideas to find some middle-ground, which also called for me surrendering my ego. I emailed my colleague on Saturday with those ideas, so this is an ongoing issue. I am more than prepared to compromise and come up with something that serves the organisation best, so let's see where we get to in the near future. Friday evening Sam was still not 100% (people at his work who also had the same symptoms all took 4 to 6 weeks to recover), so he didn't come to movie night. Okay, the last fortnight was a bit of a blur. In fact, it was so much of a blur that I completely forgot to blog last weekend, which was highly unusual. I had every intention to blog about the last two weeks earlier on today but I had an iPad crisis, which is why this post is now long overdue ... okay, another day had passed by, it is now Monday night! Omitted week The movie we saw on the Friday night two weeks ago was The Girl on the Train. It was such a suspenseful movie and Emily Blunt did a stellar job in her role. The movie kept me guessing until probably the last 15 minutes and the twist hit me like a ton of bricks. It felt a bit slow at the beginning as the movie introduced the audience to a number of pivotal characters and their intricate relationships with one another but it was worth the wait. Once the twist started to unfold, it was like a rollercoaster on the verge of a downward drop. I totally enjoyed the thrill. I do have a reason for forgetting to blog last weeken...

Another week came and went. It felt long even though Monday was a public holiday. One notable thing was - it finally donned on me that I had been expending too much energy in the past worrying about growing my client base; I came to realise that I didn't have to worry about this, given that my business partner is looking to retire within the next 3 years and apart from the sizable fee base I have built on my own, a chunk of his will also be added to my plate, so I really don't have to worry too much about not meeting my fee target, despite the fact that I am a natural worrier and I would much rather be tough on myself, rather than having someone impose their standards on me. Friday evening I had some free time on Friday afternoon, so I quickly organised informal drinks with one of my most valuable clients. It was so good to have a long weekend, especially one in which Dale and I had made plans to go out for Sunday Funday. Coupled with the fact that my new Apple Watch was getting delivered on Friday, I had been willing the week to finish all week. Friday evening The building owner was doing some work on our building, so I was forced to log out on Friday evening at 5:30 pm. Just as well - otherwise, I could have sat there for another hour before I left the office. I went downstairs and did a bit of shopping, which was a nice and relaxing way to start my long weekend. I don't seem to get much of a chance to just browse the shops these days, so I quite enjoyed myself. I could have met up with the boys for drinks beforehand, rather than meeting up with them at the cinemas at 7 pm, but I opted to spend that time by myself.
