Difficult question to answer

Image
I have recently been asked the following question: What would you do if you find out that your partner has been cheating behind your back? I must admit I was a bit floored by the question, probably because I have such a fundamental trust in Sam that has precluded me from ever asking myself that question. My trust in him isn't baseless either - his conduct to date shows his single-mindedness when it comes to me and if either one of us slips up, I doubt it would be him. But still, the question made me think. What would I do if I find out he has been cheating on me? I'd like to think I could forgive if he shows remorse but forgiveness doesn't equate 'accept and move on'. I think being cheated on is a violation of many different levels of trust. I'd feel betrayed because I have dedicated myself to him and no one else and I'd feel angry because he has potentially exposed me to life-changing health issues. Worse still, if I am the one who finds out he ha...

Being a light-weight and the Brisbane heatwave

Image
Sometimes I have to laugh at myself for how light-weight I am. On Saturday, as Brisbane was going through the start of a dreadful heatwave, I decided to make myself a martini, after having lunch downstairs in the rising heat. That first drink was great - as soon as I remembered how to make martinis (I have mainly been having cognacs). Then Sam came home from work (he had some work to do and his work air conditioning was amazing) and we were going to spend a relaxing evening together, so I made myself another martini and watched a few shows with him on TV. When I came back downstairs, I started feeling lousy. I tried to take a nap and thought I felt better when I got up but I started feeling progresssively sick again, so much so that I threw up in the loo. LOL. Naturally, I felt better after throwing up, so I went to bed. When I got up next morning, I was fine again, so what I experienced was definitely a hangover. I bet I am the only person who could get drunk on two martinis over...

Matilda, black-tie awards night, and updating cookware

Image
I am exhausted. Apart from a pretty heavy work week, Jake and Ryan bought me a ticket to see the musical, Matilda, to thank me for something I did for them a while back. I can safely say that I loved it. I never saw the movie before, so I had no idea what the story was about but I really enjoyed the quirky story that was typical of Roald Dalh's work. As usual, the talent in the show was depressingly amazing. It would have been difficult to coordinate adults in a show, let alone a whole bunch of children. They were quite simply sensational. I must admit I was anxious watching the show, hoping that the kids wouldn't forget a line or fall over or something but the entire musical unfolded professionally without a single glitch. It was quite an experience. Then there was tonight - I had to attend a black-tie dinner, which was an awards event. I dreaded going and got there late (after taking a deliberate detour in the car for a bit) but I ended up having a good old chat with...

It is time...

I cringe at the Blogger sidebar - yes, I have been blogging for more than a decade. That's equivalent to 50 years in gay life. Blogging was a source of joy when I first started it. It was an avenue to make friends but I didn't blog without some reluctance and misgivings, mainly because I cherished my privacy, which meant that I had always been careful with what I put on my blog. Over the years, my blog has turned into a personal diary of sorts but being the stubbornly persistent person that I am, I refuse to give up on regularly blogging. After all, I don't keep a diary and my blog serves precisely that purpose. While all my blogger friends have stopped at some point, I have continued to soldier on and I haven't regretted doing that. But blogging also comes with a personal sacrifice - I find myself not writing what I want to write (I started a few books years ago) because I feel guilty every Sunday night if I forget to blog. But - all things must come to an en...

Christmas break antics

Image
After a 3 week break, I am ready to get back to work. It was very therapeutic to have that much time off but I must admit I feel resentful for having to work a few hours a day anyway just to keep on top of my emails. It has been tedious but I much rather do that than having to come back and face a mountain of emails, not to mention that while I stop, my clients don't, so I can't ever really be completely off the grid. Even so, not having to wake up at a certain time, dress up, and venture into the city, makes a hell of a difference. While I haven't been sleeping till crazy hours every morning (I try to get up before 9 am), the freedom is refreshing. I guess there is no reason why I can't extend myself some more freedom even when I am not on holidays if my work ethic would permit me to do so. Given that Sam has been working since 3 January 2017, I find myself spending tons of time alone. I did plan to get in touch with a number of people but that never happened. Mayb...

Holiday bliss

Image
We have been living in bliss since Christmas Day, mainly because I could stay up till whenever I want, do whatever I want, and don't have to worry about anything. That's why I am so looking forward to retirement. Because everything we have been doing is pretty much leisure-based, the days kind of blend together with a few notable activities as follow: New computer My new Macbook Pro arrived earlier than the original delivery date. I like the new machine a lot, especially because of the Touch Bar, but I must admit it is noticeably bulkier than my 12' Macbook. Buying this computer does feel like taking a step back in some ways but we will see what Apple is going to do next. Chances are they would eventually make an ultra-portable laptop like the 12' Macbook but with the Touch Bar in the future. Usually, moving apps, data, and settings between two machines is quite easy with Migration Assistant but there was something wrong with the Macbook, which meant that the wh...
